What is Reiki?
The word Reiki means Universal Life Force Energy. Science has recently verified the existence of this “life force energy” and doctors are considering the role it plays in the healing process and function of the immune system. The practitioner is a conductor and not the source of the energy, therefore it is naturally directed to where it is needed, and treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit. The many beneficial effects include relaxation and feelings of peace, security, and well-being. Many have reported miraculous results. Reiki is a simple, natural, safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use.
A Brief History of Reiki
The teachings of Reiki reach far back into ancient cultures, Including Japanese, Chinese, Indians and Egyptians. It is likely that the Reiki Dr. Mikao Usui rediscovered in the early 1900’s in Japan, was formerly a Tibetan technique that had been lost. Dr. Chujiro Hayashi,a retired naval officer, received the Reiki Master initiation from Dr. Usui. He went on to develop the Usui method of Reiki healing, opening a Reiki clinic in Tokyo.
Reiki was brought to the west, when in 1935, Mrs. Hawayo Takata left Hawaii to attend her sister’s funeral in Japan. While in Japan, she received daily Reiki treatments at Dr. Hayashi’s clinic and after 4 months was declared cured of a tumor, gallstones, and appendicitis. She studied the Usui method of Reiki healing and returned to Hawaii and established Reiki there. Before her transition in 1980, she initiated twenty-two Reiki Masters who have gone on to spread Reiki healing throughout the west.
